Honest about online physio

What online physiotherapy can — and can't — do

For most musculoskeletal problems, the treatment that actually changes outcomes is accurate diagnosis followed by progressive, well-coached exercise — and that works exceptionally well over video.

What we cannot do online is hands-on treatment: manual therapy, joint mobilisation, massage, acupuncture or dry needling, electrotherapy, or any assessment requiring physical palpation.

Every initial assessment includes red-flag screening. If your presentation needs hands-on assessment, imaging, or urgent medical review, we'll tell you honestly and help you find the right onward care — including referral to in-person physiotherapy or your GP.

How it works

01

Book Your Assessment

Choose a 30-minute initial assessment slot that suits you. You'll receive a short pre-appointment questionnaire, plus a reminder to wear loose clothing and set up a clear space to move in.

02

Video Assessment

A thorough history, guided movement testing and red-flag screening — leading to a clear working diagnosis.

03

Your Rehab Plan

A personalised exercise programme with video demonstrations, sent to you after the session so you can follow it confidently.

04

Progress & Review

Follow-up sessions to check technique, progress your loading and adjust the plan as you improve.

What you'll need

  • Loose, comfortable clothing you can move freely in, which also allows the affected area to be seen — shorts for a knee or hip problem, a vest or strappy top for a shoulder or neck problem
  • A safe space to move in — around 2 metres of clear floor, free of trip hazards, with nothing you could knock into
  • A stable surface, worktop or sturdy chair to hold for balance-based tests
  • A phone, tablet or laptop with a working camera, positioned so your therapist can see your whole body when standing
  • A quiet, private space with a reliable internet connection
  • Any relevant scan reports or letters, if you have them
🧘

Why this matters: your therapist will guide you through movements to assess how the affected area behaves. Restrictive clothing or a cramped space makes that harder to do accurately — and, more importantly, less safe. If you are unsure whether your space is suitable, mention it at the start of the appointment and Tracey will adapt the assessment.
